Arsenal playmaker Mesut Ozil wed actress Amine Gulse on Friday at the Four Seasons Hotel, Istanbul, Turkey.Ozil revealed that he would fund surgery for 1.000 children and asked friends, family and fans to support the project he will undertake with the charity BigShoe.

The Germany-based charity was founded in 2006, when Germany hosted the World Cup, and the Arsenal star of Turkish origin has been partnered with them for five years now. The charity work alongside German and Swiss doctors to help children around the world with life-changing surgeries.

Moreover, on the occasion of his marriage, Ozil hosted a luncheon for Turkmen in the Syrian region of Bayerbogak (northern Lattakia province) and residents of the Yildaghi region of the Turkish state of Hattai because of the war in Syria.

The humanitarian coordinator in the Turkish Red Crescent, Fatih Kokjan, said the food was held in coordination with the Turkish Red Crescent branch in the Yildaghi region.

Kokjan told the Anatolian correspondent that Ozil also held food luncheons in 14 restaurants for the poor in Turkey for 14.000 Turks and Syrians, as well as food lunches for the 2.000 Syrian refugees living in refugee camps on Turkish and Syrian territory.


Ozil and Gulse are expected to spend their honeymoonin Alacati, Cesme on the Aegean coast of Turkey. The former Germany international was born in Gelsenkirchen but his family are from Zonguldak in northwestern Turkey.
