As Leo Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo have done in football, Ricardinho is breaking all records in futsal discipline. Nicknamed ‘O’Magico’ (The Magician in English), he’s been named again the best player of the World. The Portuguese giant keeps making history after being awarded in the Umbro Futsal Awards, an event organized by the sports brand and Futsal Planet.

O’Magico has been proclaimed as the futsal King of 2017, winning his fifth Ballon d’Or. As a result, Movistar Inter winger surpasses the Brazilian legend Falcao in the trophy winners ranking. Ricardinho, who last year won the UEFA Futsal Cup, the Spanish League and the Spanish Cup titles with Movistar, is the first and only Portuguese futsal player to receive the award.

Falcao has four Ballon d’Or awards (2004, 2006, 2011 and 2012), one less than Ricardinho. The Portuguese footballer was named the Best Player of the World by Futsal Planet in 2010, as a Benfica player, and in 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017 performing for Movistar Inter.

Moreover, Ricardinho is the first futsal player of all-time that receives this award four times in a raw. Brazilian legend Manoel Tobias was proclaimed the best of the World during a three-consecutive year period (from 2000 to 2002). This season, O’Magico has won the Ballon d’Or beating his teammate Carlos Ortiz and Santiago Basile.

“We all keep making history. I think it’s gonna be very tough to see any other player winning this award five times. Today is a day to celebrate, but tomorrow we all need to be focused. That’s the way to keep winning trophies”, Ricardinho said. For sure, that’s O’Magico’s way!
