Fans have heaped praise on Lionel Messi once again after the Argentinean pulled off another incredible feat.
As if his ‘panenka’ free-kick weren’t enough to marvel at during Barcelona’s 2-0 victory over Espanyol, his two strikes against their neighbours were his 40th and 41st of the season – helping the No 10 reach another impressive landmark.
As the club’s own Twitter page pointed out, it is the tenth consecutive season that Messi has hit the 40-goal mark, ever since netting 47 during the 2009-10 campaign.
In 2010/11 season, he scored 53 goals and in the 2011/12 season, he registered his highest numbers scoring 73 goals, 50 of those coming in La Liga.
In 2012/13 season, he registered 60 goals, 41 goals in 2013/14 season, 58 goals in 2014/15 season, 41 goals in 2015/16 season, 54 goals in 2016/17 season, and 45 goals in 2017/18 season
This year, he has 32 goals in the League, 2 in the Cup and 8 in the Champions League, being the top scorer both in domestic and European competition.
With at least 12 games left to finish the football season (8 League games, 2 in the Champions League as a minimum and the Cup final), both Messi himself and everyone connected with Barça hopes he can continue pushing up the numbers.
