Fourteen games down, 257 goals scored, none conceded. Benfica Women are cruising to the title after racking up another record win on Saturday. The Eagles won 32-0 against CP Pego in the second division of the Portuguese Women’s league, topping their previous best 28-0 victories earlier this term.

Brazil forward Darlene de Souza Reguera scored 10 goals, taking her tally for the season to 81 in all competitions. As a new team, Benfica are required to work their way up the league pyramid. But with their side containing several international players, they are proving too strong for the eight other teams in the league.

Incredibly, the team coached by Joao Marques have now scored more than 300 between league and cucompetition while not conceding a single goal, with promotion to Portugal’s top flight essentially guaranteed for the coming season

The club can boast three members of the current Brazil squad that will gun for the title in this year’s World Cup: midfielder Rihany and strike pair Darlene and Geyse. In the Portugal team, too, Benfica stars loom large. It is a team designed to take on the elite and win, and that is the project everyone at the famous club is working towards.

Desesperate

Spanish paper Mundo Deportivo revealed that Neymar has sent messages to Al-Khelaifi, asking to be allowed to return “home”to Barcelona and insisting that he never should have left Camp Nou back in 2017.

That message came before Al-Khelaifi’s recent interview with France Football, in which he stated that any player could be sold as he has grown tired of some members of the squad’s “superstar behaviour”.

This has given Barcelona hope that a deal could be reached, amid reports of a huge player-plus-cash offer which would see Ivan RakiticSamuel Umtiti and Ousmane Dembele head to Paris in exchange.
